# Shopify chat
Let customers message you without leaving the store. When Shopify's chat app is installed, Helix gives the chat a drawer of its own that slides in from the side, styled like your cart drawer and other overlays.
## What Helix adds
* **A chat drawer** — the conversation opens in a side drawer that matches the rest of the theme. It uses the color scheme set in [**Theme settings → Overlay**](/helix/theme-settings/overlay.md).
* **A clear corner** — the chat button moves up out of the way of the [sticky add-to-cart](/helix/features/sticky-add-to-cart.md) bar and the [mobile dock](/helix/overlay-group/mobile-dock.md). Floating popup buttons and popups placed in the same corner as the chat button move up to clear it; the ones in other corners stay where they are.
* **Right-to-left support** — on right-to-left languages, the chat button and drawer switch sides with the rest of the page. See [Right-to-left languages](/helix/features/right-to-left-languages.md).
## How to turn it on

1. Install Shopify's **Inbox** app from the Shopify App Store.
2. In the theme editor, open **App embeds** and turn on **Online Store Chat**. Its settings let you choose where the chat button sits — left, centre, or right.
3. Save, then open your storefront. The chat button appears and opens the Helix chat drawer.

There is no theme setting to turn on. Without the app, nothing from the chat is loaded, so your store stays just as fast.
