# Installation

Helix can be added to your Shopify store in three ways. Choose the method that fits your situation.

***

## Try Helix for free

Shopify lets you trial any theme before purchasing. During the trial, you can fully customize Helix in the theme editor — all changes are saved if you later decide to buy.

{% hint style="info" %}
Themes on trial show a **Theme trial** label in your theme library. Your store's live theme is unaffected until you publish Helix.
{% endhint %}

1. Go to the [Shopify Theme Store](https://themes.shopify.com) and search for **Helix**.
2. Click **Try theme**.
3. In Shopify admin, go to **Online Store → Themes**.
4. In the **Theme library** section, find Helix and click **···** → **Preview** to see it with your store's content.

***

## Purchase Helix

Only purchased themes can be published to your live store. A Helix license is tied to the store where it was purchased.

1. In Shopify admin, go to **Online Store → Themes**.
2. Click **Add theme → Visit Theme Store**.
3. Search for **Helix** and click **Buy**.
4. Complete the checkout. Helix will appear in your **Theme library** immediately.

{% hint style="info" %}
If you've already been trialing Helix, your customizations are preserved after purchase.
{% endhint %}

## Upload a ZIP file

If you have a Helix ZIP file — for example, from a direct download or a theme transfer — you can upload it manually.

1. In Shopify admin, go to **Online Store → Themes**.
2. In the **Theme library** section, click **Add theme → Upload zip file**.
3. In the dialog, click **Choose File** and select your Helix `.zip` file.
4. Click **Upload**.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Ensure the ZIP contains a single theme folder at the root level. Nested or re-zipped files may cause an upload error.
{% endhint %}

## After installation

Once Helix is in your theme library, you're ready to customize it before publishing.

1. Go to **Online Store → Themes** and click **Customize** on Helix.
2. Start with **Theme Settings** — set your colors, typography, and global layout before building individual pages.
3. When ready, click **Publish** to make Helix your live theme.
