# How to set up the product finder

The **Product finder** is a guided quiz that asks a few questions, then recommends matching products. It opens in a pop-up from a button on its own page.

The finder builds its recommendations from your **collections** and storefront **filters**. Set those up first — group the products you want to recommend into collections, and turn on the filters you want to ask about — using Shopify's free **Search & Discovery** app.

## Step 1 — Add the Product finder quiz block

In the theme editor, open the section where you want the finder and click **Add block → Product finder quiz**. It arrives with a few sample steps ready to edit — select the block to see its steps and settings.

## Step 2 — Build the first question from a collection

The first step is a **Collection filter**: each answer is a collection, and picking one narrows the recommendations to that collection's products. Add the collections you want to offer as answers, then write the question heading.

## Step 3 — Add the rest of the questions from filters

Every other step is a **Finder step**, driven by one of your storefront filters (size, colour, activity, and so on). Enter the filter's name and the question heading, then use **Add step** to add more and drag them to reorder.

### Matching the filter name

The **Filter name** must match a live storefront filter exactly

1. **Find the name** — in **Shopify Admin → Search & Discovery → Filters**, copy the filter's **Label** exactly as listed (for example, `Activity`).

2. **Enter it in the step** — paste that label into the Finder step's **Filter name** field. The step then offers that filter's values as the answers.

## Step 4 — (Optional) Capture emails before the results

Turn on **email capture** to show a sign-up screen just before the matches, with its own heading, text, and consent message. Shoppers who sign up are added to your Shopify customer list — you'll find them under **Shopify Admin → Customers** — and, when consent is enabled, recorded as accepting email marketing. Their quiz answers and top product matches are also saved to that customer's **Note** field, so you can see what each shopper was looking for. Anyone who prefers not to can skip straight to their results.

Collected emails are stored in **Shopify Admin → Customers**. Check that your store's marketing consent settings meet local rules such as GDPR or CAN-SPAM before collecting emails.

## Step 5 — Set up the results screen

Under the quiz's **Result settings**, write the results heading and supporting text shown once the shopper finishes.
